Gordon Murray is set to finally realise his dream of creating a highly efficient, radical car for mass production. The mastermind behind the F1 supercar left McLaren Cars a couple of years ago, and has now secured the funding to set up on his own. Gordon Murray Design Limited – a design, prototyping and development company – will be launched on 4 July.
2012 Ford Focus ST - Production-ready by Frankfurt in September
The 2011 Ford Focus is now starting to hit the roads in earnest (especially on the roads near Cars UK Towers), but what we’re really looking forward to is a new Focus with a bit more get up and go. We’re hoping Ford are still going ahead with plans for the Focus RS Hybrid by 2013, but what we do know for sure is that we will be seeing a warmer Focus in the 2012 Focus ST before the end of the year. We know that because Ford told us.
The Suzuki Swift Plug-in Hybrid
Latest to announce their Eco offering is Suzuki, with the Swift Plug-in Hybrid. Principally designed to be an electric car, the Swift plug-in also has a small petrol engine which, when the charge in the lithium-ion batteries is depleted, kicks in to recharge the batteries, rather than drive the car. This is similar to the system implemented in the Opel Ampera and the Jaguar XJ Limo Green with the Lotus Range Extender setup.
